Why Join SEIU?

Do you deserve more for the work you do?
Are you happy with your work, but tired of not having a voice in your agency
Do you wonder how much longer you can afford to work in human services?

Now is the time to stand up! Thousands of group home workers, clinicians, and other human service workers across Massachusetts have joined the Service Employees International Union for a voice at work. Forming a union is the only way you can have a say in agency policies and negotiate a legally binding contract.

SEIU Local 509 is part of the  Service Employees International Union, the largest labor union in the United States, with 1.9 million members.

Local 509 represents over 11,000 Human Service and Public Sector workers throughout Massachusetts.  Several thousand SEIU Local 509 members work as professional, direct care, and support staff at private agencies that receive public funding to provide a variety of social services to elders, at-risk children, and people with mental illness and developmental disabilities.

How the Union Works for You

SEIU Local 509 members have a number of ways to claim a voice for our future. If you are not yet represented by a union at work, learn the important benefits of organizing:

Your Right to Organize

U.S. labor law gives you the right to organize a union!

It is illegal for management to threaten, harass, and discriminate against any employee for union activity.
